Remember this blog post I wrote just last year concerning Facebook promotion rules? Well…what I wrote THEN doesn’t apply now? Why? Because Facebook announced just yesterday it has changed its mind! No more are fan page administrators required to use 3rd party applications to conduct engagement-rousing contests on Facebook.
That’s great news for millions of people, brands, and businesses tired of using premium 3rd party apps to do contests. But I know some of you are saying, “So what? I’ve been doing contest on my business page for a while without punishment.” Well, for those of you, you can now continue doing so without fear of your page being snatched down for breaking the rules.
So now according to Facebook’s official blog. Fan page admins can:
- Use likes as a voting tool. So the pic or video on the fan page with the most likes can win.
- Collect entries by having userds post on the page.
- Use messages as a means of collecting contest entries
What you CAN’T do is tag people or ask them to tag themselves in photos, videos, etc that they are not literally in. So no more asking participants to tag themselves as a way of entering a contest. To read other do’s and don’t click Facebook Contest Rules.
